Association and free trade agreement with the European Union
The association agreement with the European Union (EU) entered into effect on March 1998, provides for the free access and exemption from customs duties on Tunisian industrial products to the European market.

Preferential trade agreements
Tunisia has signed a number of preferential trade agreements with Maghreb and Arab countries.

Customs reductions
Tunisia enjoys reduced customs duties within the framework of the General System of Preferences for manufactured, agricultural, and handicrafts goods with Japan, Canada, the United States, Switzerland, and Australia.

Proximity of European and Arab markets
Tunisia is located at the crossroads of the eastern and western Mediterranean, less than an hour flight from Europe. With 1,300 kilometers of coastline, Tunisia has a long tradition of openness to the outside world.
